DORM ROOM FOOD HAUL

I went FUCKING HARD IN THE PAINT ON HEALTHY FOODS to Kroger and Trader Joe’s this morning because I FINALLY got a mini fridge in my dorm room. I stocked up on all of my faves:

back-to-school-challenge:

Have you fallen off the wagon this summer and need a push to get going? Maybe you’re doing an awesome job, but you’re losing your steam? Or maybe you’re just starting out with your weight loss/fitness journey. Whatever your goals are, if you need some support in your last few weeks before school starts, this is it!
Join the Back-To-School Challenge to find a support group that will push you and keep you on track.
There will be weekly and daily challenges centered around being healthy and positive! There will not be provided workouts or meal plans but there is a requirement of getting some kind of exercise 5 days a week! You get points for exercise and doing challenges.
I realize everyone goes back to school at different times but this challenge will run for 30 days. I would like to start sometime this week or early next week so sign up today!
Send a message to my ask with your name, email address, and URL of your fitblr (or primary blog if you don’t have a fitblr). I will respond with the password to the group blog! (I need your email to add you to the group page, so make sure it’s the email you use for tumblr!)

Sorry for being MIA all summer!

I got a job and ended up having NO time. But don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about THCL! I will definitely be updating a LOT more when the school year starts. I will try to update before then as well! Don’t give up on THCL :)

If you LOVE ice cream like I do, you will absolutely love these 15 calorie treats. A cup of ice cream can have over 330 calories, while the whole can of whipped cream has about 290!
Buy lightly sweetened whipped cream in a can (look at the ingredients to see if it’s truly just cream)
Make little swirls on a baking sheet, and pop in the freezer for at least 2 hours.
I piped these into cupcake papers which made them take up less space.
Every time you get an ice cream craving pop one of these in your mouth!

Sidenote: you DON’T need a baking sheet or even cupcake papers! I just put them on a paper plate and it worked fine!

While still in peel, lightly roll banana on counter top to soften it up. Cut one end of banana off and carefully squeeze contents into a plastic sandwich bag. Cut up 4 strawberries, removing leaves, and place in bag. Close bag and squish contents until contents are mixed to your liking. Cut corner off of bag and squeeze into a freezer-safe container (I like to use a rinsed out small Chobani yogurt cup). Cover with saran wrap and a rubber band. Put in freezer and wait for contents to firm. Enjoy.

Vegan Chocolate Mug Cake (can be gluten free!)

Recipe submitted by healthy-skinny-me!

I got this recipe from Chocolate Covered Katie who posts only vegan desserts and I absolutely LOVE IT, even though I’m not vegan. It’s so easy and quick to make, perfect for college! And it can easily be gluten free, too!

Makes: a pretty big single serving dessert.

Nutrition info: 
Calories: 205 with oil (140 without)
Fat: 12g with oil (2g without)
Carbs: 30g
Fiber: 6.5g
Protein: 5.5g 

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon plus 2 tsp cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons spelt flour (or white, or even peanut flour)
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar (or evaporated cane juice)
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 stevia packet (or 1 tablespoon more sugar)
  • 2-3 tsp coconut oil or vegetable oil (Edit: many commenters have said it still tastes good if you sub applesauce or mashed banana. But I can’t personally vouch for the results if you make that substitution.)
  • 3 tablespoons milk of choice (I used almond milk)
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Combine dry ingredients and mix very, very well.
  2. Add liquid, stir, then transfer to a little dish, ramekin, or even a coffee mug.
  3. Microwave 30-40 seconds. If you don’t want to eat it straight out of the dish, be sure to spray your dish first (and then wait for it to cool before trying to remove it).

Q:i have a tip. whenever you get the midnight munchies or feel like a light snack, grab some pita and a spoonful of hummus. It's filling, tasty, and less than 200 calories! For the lunch/dinner version, fill the pita with hummus, whatever veggies you want, and enjoy! All that is less than 500 calories, which is around the amount you should consume per meal.
